Bio

Pianist and B3 Organist Peter Johnstone is a native of Glasgow whose prodigious talents have brought him prominence in UK jazz circles. An intelligent and virtuosic improviser, Peter is in demand in the UK scene and plays with The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, The Tommy Smith Quartet, Paul Towndrow Organ Trio, Helena Kay, Prime Organ Trio and his own acoustic project, The Peter Johnstone Trio. His current solo project brings together vibraphonist Joe Locke, saxophonist Tommy Smith and drummer Alyn Cosker in an all-star organ quartet, with the first album due for release in early 2025.

Peter is also an accomplished classical pianist, having completed a Masters Degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2016 where he is currently working towards a Doctorate in piano performance and works as a lecturer in Jazz.

 Peter’s talents have been nationally recognised, having won the BBC Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year in 2012, The Peter Whittingham Award with “Square One”, in 2013 was chosen to be a Yamaha scholar and was recently named the Gleneagles Scholar in support of his Doctorate studies
